    aloha!
My mum has arrived from Calgary and tonight we are packing. Tomorrow after work, my mum, the boys and I are going to the Big Island! I can't wait. I think I need the vacation. We have scheduled a lot of scuba-diving!

Mum spent yesterday hanging out with Gaby and Savith. They had a great day together. I will post some pictures taken at the park.

It is 72 degrees here today... Wondering what the weather is like in Hawaii...??? (just checked: Kona is a high of 81 today (27c))

    vegas, baby!
So paprikas and E arrived safely. They have a car with a GPS so they have been going around town without directions...

They have been to Vegas and had a lot of fun. There's a famous saying "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas." We will see if E&E talk about their adventures! I do know she saw an Elvis.

My co-worker gave up sweets for Lent so I have too! Trying to lose the last 15lbs of Christmas and baby blah! I was eating a lot of sweets lately so this should cleanse my system before our trip to Hawaii in April.

The baby is eating solids... well peas and asparagus. Funny thing is he gets stinky asparagus pee! I didn't know babies get that!

    Hope everyone is doing well!

    like any new mom...
...I have cut off my hair.

And I have been hearing about it all day. It doesn't seem that my haircut choice is very popular today amoungst my co-workers. S was nice about it ~ and he is the only one that I would like to like it (he has to look at me).

I am not sure what I think. Savith can't grab at it, so that is good. That is the reason I cut my hair off. It was 1/2 way down my back before, but you couldn't tell since I always had it in a ponytail.

I also got low-lights to do something a little funky.

My point: It is just hair.

    paprikas coming to town
Very excited about different visitors in the next few months. As mentioned previously, pepper72 is stopping in with the crew over 4th of July, on her way to SS's wedding in Boise. My super friend Mik from Montreal is most likely coming down at the end of June with her honey Kevin. And NEXT WEEK paprikas will be coming with E all the way from Sweden. Thankfully, E is good at his job and has been given some traveling assignments! My mum is coming for a few days in March before we leave for Hawaii!

Guess the pimpmobile (Suresh's red convertible) is going to get some action of the next few months! :)

    baby update

    So he's 5 months today.

Activities: He love to be in the Baby Bjorn facing out. He hangs out even while mom is cooking a full meal. He likes to be apart of what is going on. He prefers to be outside. He loves to go for walks. He is always happier in the morning than the evening. He has a routine. Every day, Gaby takes him for a walk and gives him a bath. He loves to suck on fingers and faces. He pulls long hair. He loves to watch hockey on TV (he's a sharks fan) even though mommy doesn't let him watch TV.

Motion: He rolls over. Instead of getting ready to crawl while on his belly, he likes to throw his arms and legs in the air like Superman. He can sit, but his favourite position is standing up. He loves to walk with assistance. Maybe a kid that walks before he crawls. He is grabbing everything (including a handful of mommy's cheerios in the morning). He has discovered his feet. Last night, he was sucking on his toe during a diaper change.

Language: Talks up a storm. He tries all different octaves, preferring the high ones. He hears lots of languages, French from Mommy, Tamil from Daddy, Spanish from Gaby, and English is the standard. He has a great laugh. He thinks mommy is very funny. He like funny sounds and people singing to him. He likes "The Monkeys" theme song (I do not know how I discovered that) as well as the story of the "Big Bad Wolf and the Three Little Pigs".

Food: In the last few days he has started getting formula once a day and rice cereal once a day. The rice cereal is an adventure since he eats it with a spoon (his first non-bottle food). Though he is fascinated with us when we eat, he prefers milk to everything else. Formula seems to make him more 'regular'. That's good except mommy has had to do a lot of laundry lately.

Sleep: This varies a lot. Some nights (like last night) we get tears every 2 hours. Some nights he sleeps for 9 hours straight. I take a lot of the night shifts since he needs mommy to sleep. The transfer until the bed is always the hardest.

We met a new born boy the other day and we can't imagine that he was ever that small. He is now over 18 lbs so he doesn't look like a little baby anymore. Just thought I would share what our little guy is up to. It has been a five-month adventure.

    finally added a user pic
I will have to get a different user pic, but this will do for now. Not as cool as some of your pics. Just wanted to add an entry saying that pepper72 and family will be coming to CA on the way to Boise for her cool cousin's wedding. I am pretty excited to have them. The more the merrier I say! Offered up our cheesy red convertible to help with the CA experience.

    My sports rant
Okay, so usually Superbowl means meeting with friends, eating comfort food, be annoyed with the commercial hype, but this year will be different. Since moving in with S, I have become much more familiar with the NFL's rules and players (my limited interest in football used to be directed to the CFL). I live in an area with two horrible teams ~ the 49ers, who have limited potential since getting rid of Garcia (and TO) and the Raiders who only have scary, loyal fans (and that is about it). I have always be partial to Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison of the Colts. Unfortunately, (mostly due to their crappy defense) the Colts never seem to get past New England. This year didn't look like it was going to be different, but in the 2nd half of the game against NE, the Colts made the biggest comeback in history and won by 4 points.

Now the Colts get to play the Bears in the championship... Keep your fingers crossed and don't cheer for the Bears! Go Colts! I wonder if they will play any of Peyton's silly commercials during Superbowl...... probably.

    Okay. I am done.

No wait, to finish off my football entry, I have to say that I live in the same zip code as a great 49s player, Steve Young. Both he and S were shopping in the baby aisle of Walgreens the other day. Kind of fun. S is a big fan, but hasn't said anything to him yet. What would you say to a famous person that was worth bothering them about? 'I am a big fan'?

    Happy New Year!
We had a great trip to Canada. Didn't do much, but that was the beauty. Savith celebrated his first Christmas, which he slept through. He had more gifts than anyone under the tree. Next year should be really fun when he is aware and participating.

Took him to Lake Louise (in the top 10 most beautiful places in the world) and packed him up with a lot of clothes (including a snowsuit and fleece hat). He still panicked with the cold air and I rushed him back to the car. When he felt the cold on his face he started to lick and drool. Not smart. I think he will be a kid that licks a frozen post when he is older...

I hope all my friends that read this (if anyone is still reading) have great things happen to them in 2007. We wish you all the best!

    Happy Holidays
Okay, so it has been a LONG time since I have updated my journal... but I have an excuse and he is 16lb+ heavy. Motherhood rocks. Savith is more work than I could have imagined, but also much more fun. Poor kid has been sick a lot. Had emergency surgery for a hernia (that was blocked) and then had his first cold (which his mommy gave him) which came with a UTI. The UTI risked another surgery. Thankfully he is okay and doesn't need another trip to the hospital. That said he is super tough.

I really should update this to a paid account so that I can share pictures of the little guy. He looks just like his dad except he has pale, olive skin. Tons of hair and really big for his age (both height and weight).

We are all heading to Canada this afternoon. Nanna and Grampie are so very excited about seeing the little guy. Another thing about having a kid is they require a lot of stuff. Usually we only travel with a carry-on. Now we are using our scuba bags (much like hockey bags) to take all of his stuff. We are his slaves.

Started work on Friday. Good to be back. Savith is with his nanny, Gabby. She is wonderful.

    Okay! Happy holidays to everyone!

    wishing for 8.5 lbs
okay... so I am 10 days late sharing the big news... Savith Francis was born at 1:20 pm on the 1st September at 9 LB 3 OZ! (note: i was induced at the check-up mentioned in my last message). mum and baby are great. we are all completely taken by this little guy. he is beautiful, looking just like his dad, with my mum's nose. don't see much of me yet, but I am giving him time.

labour hurts. after multiple hours, I took the drugs. funny. i went from crying in pain to playing cards with my mum (not knowing the contractions were happening). don't think i could have done it without the drugs since it took everything I had to get this guy out.

he has a great personality. he doesn't cry without a reason and he makes the cutest faces at us all. i fondly call him "my little monkey".

hope all of you are well.

paprikas & pepper72: got your parcel. thanks a ton. we had a lot of fun going through it.

Had a doctor's appointment yesterday and she told me that any moment now I will be having a 8 1/2 lb baby boy... I guess that helps make the decision about drugs!

    happy birthday to me
Having a quiet birthday. 31... getting old. Funny how your priorities change. I am much more excited about the baby's arrival than my birthday. Got some great calls today and online cards and my mum and dad sent some nice flowers. All in all a nice day. Pampered myself by getting a pedicure. Just like on Seinfeld... ladies laughing and you don't know what they are saying... Nice to have my 'shrek' feet rubbed (well nice for me, maybe not for the lady who was rubbing!)

Hopefully you are all having a great day.

    almost there - week 37
It has been a while. Friday was my last day at the office (I was half time last week). I got a lot done, but it never seems like enough. Hard to hand over a project that you have created from scratch. Also weird to not be going to work tomorrow when my whole reason for moving to the US was work.

That said, I AM SO EXCITED about being a mom. Okay for those of you who hope for maternal instinct, I really believe it exists. The first 3 months of pregnancy I was scared. The second 3, my excitement started to build and now I can't imagine anything else. I think that the reason the last 2 months are so awkward is so that you just want the baby out and you stop worrying how he is going to get out. I am much more excited about SJ's arrival than I am scared about the process. He continues to kick my insides - I think he is going to run or jump out!

My mom arrives on the 25th which is very exciting... Someone to guide us through the first week or so.

Hope everyone who is reading is happy.

zebras, giraffes and elephants... oh my!
late, late night, last night crafting up a craze! our friends Lisa and Bruce came over to help us decorate SJ's room. we had foam that we were making in similar shapes as the jungle animals in the bedding. it worked out so well. everyone found ways to be creative and the outcome was magical. we have elephants, birds, giraffes, alligators, turtles,... that will be mounted around the room. we decided to do this instead of painting or wall paper so it can be removed easily. i will post pictures on our website of the outcome. it was worth the late night!

it was so nice for our friends to come give us there time for this project. i couldn't have done it alone. this is going to be the simplest, but coolest kids room around!

    too much sun
Had a rough weekend. S was helping with an intro dive class in Monterey so I went to get away (and to work on my thesis). It was chilly and overcast, so I didn't wear sunscreen. I am now the color of a lobster on my face, shoulders and a V on my chest. It is crazy! Sleeping is miserable. I have been putting aloe on continuously, but I am not sure that that is going to prevent a peel of the century. Clothing hurts (they dig into my skin!), but I think it would inappropriate to go without at work. :)

Tonight a few friends are coming over to help with decorating the baby's room. I will try to share a picture soon.

Can't believe that as of last Saturday there is only 7 weeks left. And that's the conservative date. Also 1.5 weeks ago, I fired my resident/doctor. She had multiple personalities (most evident when her boss was in the room).

Hopefully everyone is doing well. Cyndi - I am jealous of your travels. Meek - did you get the tattoo? Paprika - long time no news... Maybe a phone call? Pepper - can I tell you are related to paprika? Mik & fish mongress- Any plans to visit sunny cali?

    :)

    hot, hot, hot
This is not only a bad 80s song, but it is also the temperature of my house. All week it has been 90+ degrees (which is odd for this area). No wonder I have been swimming a lot. Hopefully it isn't as hot wherever you are!

    Welcome home paprikas!
